On June 25, 1991, the Republic of Croatia became independent state by constitutional decision of the state parliament. It is geographically located in the southern part of Central Europe and in the northern part of the Mediterranean. It borders the north with Slovenia and Hungary, to the east with Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, to the south with Montenegro, while to the west with Italy there is a sea border. The land area is 56.542 km² and the surface of the coastal sea is 31.067 km² which makes Croatia one of the medium-sized European countries. The Capital City is Zagreb.
